Troop 373 Philmont Trek July 7-19, 2007

Going to Philmont is one of the most memorable experience while being a Boy Scout.  Our Troop was fortunate to be able to go to the Philmont National Scout Ranch in northern New Mexico only a 5 hour drive south of Denver.  Our Crew spent 12 days at the Scout Ranch with one day at the beginning getting prepared then 10 days on the trail and one day at the end to clean up finally and have a final campfire.  Over 33,000 Scouts go to Philmont every summer to experience their 10 day backpacking trek.  Every 3 days the group was able to pick up additional food so the backpacks were heavy every third day again.  Activities are always as much fun as the backpacking.   Highlights were the shotgun shell loading and shooting, black powder guns, Caving and Blacksmith entertainment, Evening hootenanny sing-along, Horseback riding, Conservation project and Chuckwagon Dinner.  This was our new Scoutmaster Jon Mussato's introduction to his first BSA High Adventure going to Philmont for this 10 day wilderness backpacking trek.  Two of the Scouts were veterans having both been to Philmont before and returned because of the wonderful Philmont Experience. Everyone had a great time.
